Which social media scheduler actually makes sense for a solo founder

I spent two weeks trying every social media scheduler. Signed up for trials. Read through pricing pages looking for hidden fees. Built comparison spreadsheets. Talked to founders using each one.

Most comparison articles are affiliate link farms. They list features nobody cares about and skip the stuff that matters: real monthly cost at 6 platforms, whether the API actually works, if posts reliably go out.

The Landscape

Seven tools matter for solo founders in 2026. The enterprise tools (Sprout Social, Sprinklr) are irrelevant at this scale. Here's every tool at their lowest usable paid tier:

Buffer has the best free tier: 3 channels, 10 posts each. But pricing scales per channel at $6 each. Six platforms costs $36/month. The API is available on every plan including free. GraphQL. Well-documented. No MCP server but developer docs guide AI agent integration.

Best for: budget solo founders who only post to 2-3 channels.

Hootsuite: Enterprise Only

Hootsuite starts at $99/user/month for 10 accounts. The API requires Enterprise with a sales call. No public self-serve API since 2023. MCP support is announced but not shipped. For solo founders, Hootsuite is overkill and overpriced.

Best for: regulated industries, large marketing teams. Not for solo founders.

Typefully: Best Thread Composer, Limited Platforms

Typefully has the best writing experience on the market. Distraction-free. Beautiful thread composer. Auto-retweet and evergreen features. Full MCP server at mcp.typefully.com. But only supports 4 platforms: X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads. No Instagram. No TikTok.

Best for: X/Twitter and LinkedIn creators who live in threads.

PostBridge: Built for AI Agents

Jack Friks built PostBridge specifically for AI agents. Native MCP server. One-click Claude Desktop setup. Flat pricing at $29/mo for 15 accounts. The API is a $5 add-on. Posts go out fast. Simple UI. No AI content generation.

Best for: developers who want agent-first posting. The MCP is the best in class.

SocialRails: AI Generation Heavy

SocialRails generates AI content at scale. Bulk generate 30 days of content. AI images and videos included. CLI with JSON output for agents. SDKs for JS/TS and Python. Flat $29/mo for 9 platforms. AI credits reset monthly.

Best for: founders who want AI to draft content. Not for people who write their own posts.

What Actually Matters

Three things determine whether a scheduler works for a solo founder:

Price at your platform count. Buffer at $6/channel means $36/month for 6 platforms. PostBridge at $34/month with API. SocialSpool at $19 flat. Run the numbers at 12 months.

Reliability. Did the posts actually go out? You'd be surprised how many tools fail this. Check the publish status. Not the calendar. The confirmation.

API or agent access. If you're building workflows, CI/CD pipelines or AI agents, you need programmatic access. Buffer and PostBridge have it on paid plans. Hootsuite requires Enterprise. Typefully has MCP.

Everything else — AI generation, analytics depth, team features — is noise for a solo founder. You're one person. You don't need approval workflows.
